Summer roadtrip season: €30 for a month of high speed charging in Europe
UPDATE: JuicePass updated the website. The deal is gone. It was available until 7th of July. Enjoy if you booked it in time!
Summertime. Season of EV roadtrips! If you want to find out how you can drive unlimited miles in your EV (for the whole month of July 2020) then just keep on reading.
This week I received the best email summer could possibly bring. Members of electricfelix have gained access to the EV guide to Italy recently. The number one recommendation that I can share from the guide is to download the JuicePass application. Driving around Italy & Spain this application is a must have.
UPDATE (July 1st) - I visited Ionity (and Allego) today to test it out! (see video number three).
UPDATE 2 - it took all day, but here is the news: JuicePass approved EU wide Ionity charging at €1.- a day. You better sign up before 7th of July!
UPDATE 3 - below videos (1&2) of tests with JuicePass at Allego and Ionity. “Flawless” and with zero euro invoices afterwards.
When traveling around Europe, it’s a good idea to have access to a decent amount of charging cards and apps. Ionity (famous high power charging network for Europe) changed prices back in winter. I have since kept a Ionity pricing update page online, that showed many countries had a new charging champion in town: JuicePass.
For some months, JuicePass would offer Ionity charging at €0,50/kWh rates. Countries like Denmark, Austria and others would have no better alternative to the super competitive rate JuicePass offered. Of course I was disappointed to receive only their second newsletter ever with the news that High Power Charging (100kW+) would receive a new price level.
Right now Maingau and ChargePoint are your go-to charging card when visiting Ionity, unless you’re reading this in July 2020!
Unlimited charging around Europe, July 2020: €30,-
Can you imagine my happiness when I received newsletter number three by JuicePass this week! July 2020: pay 30 euros upfront and receive UNLIMITED (fast) charging around Europe on the whole JuicePass network. Yes, that includes parties like Shell Recharge in The Netherlands, Ionity anywhere in Europe, Allego and 30.000+ other chargers. You can find them all in the app.
Be aware that I noticed some Ionity stations in the UK missing from the app. To unlock those you will need to order the RFID.
UPDATE: JuicePass Ionity roaming in the UK will not be working before September 2020.
Now if only JuicePass would start roaming with Fastned! Then we would be done, for now.
The JuicePass experience
JuicePass has an interesting history. Endesa X (Spain) and Enel X (Italy) have joined forces and it seems they are very serious. In Spain I enjoyed the Endesa infrastructure during the #EQC2Madrid ride last February. You can check out the JuicePass app in action on YouTube. I wouldn’t have made it across the Pyrenees without it!
More good news? Last year there was only the app. It’s now possible to request a JuicePass charging card right there in the app. For anyone wishing for a fast charge! The costs are €16,-
Activate the 30 euro super deal
The app works with a payment profile, located in the middle below. There you can ‘Manage profiles’, where you can select ‘pay per use’ (as I have in the past) and now you can subscribe directly to the July unlimited deal. Creditcard & PayPal accepted.
After hearing people having trouble creating a profile: Signing up for JuicePass, don’t worry about the zip code. Just add a 0 at the end if necessary. When you order the RFID you can enter a correct shipping address.
I received some questions regarding AC charging. Yes this is included. Be aware that as soon as you’re fully charged, after 30 minutes a fee will be paid for the connection.
Before I forget, I’m planning a new Berlin challenge next month. I’ll tell you all about it in my upcoming newsletter. Earlier Berlin challenges? Jaguar I-Pace back in 2018! Tesla Model 3 Long Range, last year. What do you think is next?
Enjoy the ride!
