Why Fastned and EnBW working together is a big deal!
Yesterday Fastned announced the acceptance of the EnBW ladekarte (charging card) at their fast charging stations. On top of that you can also add the details of the card into the Fastned app, this way enabling #autocharge at €0,39/kWh if you enable the monthly €5,- plan in your EnBW profile (free for ADAC members).
The announcement
Of course there was a tweet.
Right before the official announcement I was already digging around to find my EnBW charging card and entering the details into the Fastned app. Because somebody mentioned this (suddenly) working, I had to test immediately!
The figures
What it boils down to is: more opportunities to charge fast (300kW at the hyperchargers) at the right price. Thanks to Fastned and EnBW it will be easy to drive from Amsterdam to Munich on just the prefered EnBW rate. I’ll demonstrate using ABRP.
That’s how a German EV roadtrip should look like. No matter the infrastructure, one charging card that works. Thanks to Fastned being open to anyone that uses OCPI standards connecting the backend is easy.
Enjoying the new reality
Especially for any German EV driver (tens of thousands are joining the game as of recently) this is a great moment: the EnBW charging card became “the new Maingau” last year. With affordable fast charging nationwide. Late 2020 extended roaming contracts made it possible to use EnBW for example at the newest Total HPC chargers in France. To use the EnBW ladekarte at Fastned was still a missing link.
Now over a hundred fast charging stations in The Netherlands are easily accessed by regular EnBW customers.
The statistics & #autocharge:
In Germany EnBW is expanding the #hypernetz rapidly. Over 400 stations with the plan for a thousand at the end of the year. Compare that with IONITY (at a hundred German stations right now). Looking at Fastned in Germany, there are a couple of hypertactical locations (for example #KreuzHilden & between Hamburg and Berlin).
But where it gets fun is that Fastned will expand this year: the second station just opened in Switzerland (twenty in total coming). The second Belgian station should open soon. Nine planned locations in France were announced. Don’t forget to activate Autocharge for a “Tesla experience” BUT with a roof ;-]
I wonder if the website that EnBW has for their #hypernetz will be more welcoming to foreigners in the future. I recommend people actively to use the EnBW (digital) infrastructure. Even though I’m hearing complaints about speaking German being a must when customer service gets involved.
I wish everyone happy charging, all over Europe!
